"today in the bay's" marla tellez joining us live from our newsroom with the area's police and searching what they are all up to today. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the search is expanding but with focus on particular areas. one of those spots is big bear which does remain on lockdown today. people in this resort town, which is about 80 miles east of los angeles are being told to stay inside with their windows locked. this is because investigators found a burning truck that belonged to the suspect christopher dorner in this area yesterday. the truck is now being tested at a crime lab today in san bernardino. today some lapd officers and their families are getting extra protection during this manhunt. dorner posted an 11-page manifesto online naming people in the department and blaming them and the department as a whole for essentially ruining his life. he was let go from lapd in 2009 but discharged as a navy reservist just week ago and now investigators say dorner is out

to get revenge on officers. >> people with whom he had a grievance were fair game and so were their families and so were any other police officers on or off duty. >> reporter: it's been a very difficult 24 hours for people in riverside county who hold an emotional vigil for officers who were shot. none of the officers have been identified but the officer that died was 34 years old. the other officer in critical condition is expected to survive. shot almost a dozen times. that's a miracle. also overnight, authorities in san diego found another truck they believe is linked to dorner. they are fingerprinting this truck today so we are waiting to hear those results. bottom line, dorner is considered armed and dangerous and also homicidal and suicidal. laura and jon? >> it's been so chaotic and constantly changing events. >> we have the time line of events related to the killing

spree. back in 2009, navy reservist christopher dorner is fired from lapd after the department concludes he lied in a police report. >> then february 1st, an assistant to cnn's anderson cooper received a package from dorner including a gold lapd coin shot with bullet holes. the coin was given to dorner by then police chief bill bratton. >> sunday dorner allegedly killed the assistant basketball coach at cal state fullerton and her fiance who is a public safety officer at usc. >> wednesday an elderly boat ener in san diego is assaulted by a man matching dorner's description. >> on thursday morning, dorner allegedly kills one police officer and injures two others. that happened in riverside county. also thursday morning during the manhunt police shoot an elderly woman and her daughter as they deliver newspapers. the women were apparently inside a truck similar to dorner's. the elderly woman is in intensive care this morning. and thursday a burning truck that may be linked to dorner is

found in the big bear area. >> later thursday a car linked to dorner is found in san diego. police are now testing it for fingerprints. >> a very fluid situation. a lot going on in this one. we'll bring you all of the latest developments. we're watching the weather this morning as we give you a live look at sfo. flights into the east coast are being canceled in advance of a very powerful nor'easter. and the impact certainly being felt here in the bay area. "today in the bay's" christie smith live at san francisco international with a look at what you need to know if you are planning on flying out. good morning, christie. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. people are feeling good and thankful that flights they are on on the west coast but people heading back east are having problem. i spoke with the airport duty manager. he told me already this morning there are 55 cancellations out

of sfo due to that snowstorm back east that's having a ripple effect here. 38 departures. 17 arrivals canceled so far at sfo this morning. we did catch up with travelers who were delayed trying to get back east. one woman trying to get to boston decided to just pull out a blanket and get comfortable for the wait. >> nothing. no news. >> reporter: how long have you been waiting? >> we've been here since 3:00 in the morning. yeah. it's crazy. >> reporter: she had a 9:20 flight this morning. more than 1,000 flights across the country were canceled in advance of this nor'easter. we're seeing this affecting new york, newark, boston, also washington d.c. 55 cancellations so far. that airport duty manager told me to check back in in 30 minutes and he may have new numbers for us. reporting live at sfo, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much. >> that weather out there in the

east crazy. we're also getting some of our own stuff not nearly as bad but rain throughout the bay area. >> rain and a mixture of rain and snow down to 500 feet and as we continue to drop off temperaturewise, our chance for low level snow gets better and better. want to zoom into some more impressive cells that we're tracking for you right now. look at this. straight snowfall coming down just to the east of the 17 summit. we haven't had any snow reported on highway 17 but as you head out the front door, look out for slick, icy conditions. mike and myself have been busy this morning with all of this radar action to show you. look at this. i set radar back one hour. the foothills surrounding livermore getting a dusting of straight snowfall. now at about 600 feet. so we continue that chance. very slight chance but it could happen. livermore could see a mix of rain and snow. i want to point out it's a busy weekend. many heading out of town. headed to southern california,

so is this storm system so watch for treacherous driving conditions along 5. snow showers over the grapevine. by the time you get there, that snow will be dorne. straight rain. 52 at the coast. 52 bring your umbrella. keep the jacket handy. ditch the umbrella tomorrow. good looking weekend shaping up. a couple notes to point out with that seven-day forecast in my next report. i want to talk to mike about that drive. a couple accidents. >> we were looking at fremont. 880 past the truck stop. let me take you to the maps and show you what we're talking about. two crashes involving cars that have gone off the roadway. you know there are separate incidents. we'll show you the southern most one. this is south 680 right around scott creek road. you have your slow lane blocked by the fire crew that's on scene. chp in arrival mode there. two cars crash and are also up the embankment off the roadway. slicker roadways could have contributed to this but i won't say anything for insurance purposes. that's just factor out there.

watch that for the stopping distances. the pink also in the hills. that may be icy conditions on local streets as the warmup time hasn't hit yet. south 880 approaching auto mall parkway, another crash reported as a single car there went off the roadway up the embankment there. there's slowing this time northbound side as crews arrive flashing lights may be a distraction there. we'll track both of those incidents. southbound 101 from 680 past 880 and maybe toward the airport with slower drive. the green on map aside from chicklets means wet roadways here. a live look outside at the bay bridge as the backup starts to form for interstate 80 over the water into the city. interstate 80 through the sierra chain requirements. keep that in mind if you are heading over toward tahoe. lucky you. back to you guys. >> as long as you have the chains. thank you. 6:09. a fairfield school ransacked by robbers. two armed men tied up a janitor

and stole ipads wednesday night. the suspect told the 50-year-old custodian to take them specifically to where the ipads were stored. the robbers both african-american males in their 20s duck taped the man to a desk before leaving the scene. the robby was the third in four months in which thieves targtded the school's ipads. today is a decision day on a lawsuit filed by a family of man who drown in the bay while police and firefighters stood by and watched onshore. the attorney says the situation was tragic but first responders did not have a legal duty to help. raymond zach waded out into the water on memorial day 2011. police say they did not go after him because he was suicidal and possibly dangerous. firefighters say they were not certified for water rescues at the time. they now are certified. zach succumbed to hypothermia and eventually drown.

a cold one as well. we'll check the forecast in just a bit with christina. new this morning, a 7.1 earthquake hit the solomon islands overnight days after deadly 8.0 quake rattled that region and triggered a tsunami. at least nine people including a child were killed during that tsunami because they were not fast enough to try to outrun that rushing water. around 100 homes across five fill v villages were damaged or destroyed. time for a quick check of the day's top stories. the manhunt continues for a former police officer in l.a. accused of going on a killing spree in southern california. cars linked to christopher dorner have been found near big bear and san diego. so far no signs of dorner. a memorial will be held tonight at a park where a girl's body was found a week ago. investigators are treating the death as a homicide. leon panetta retiring today

after 40 years in washington. panetta, the secretary of defense, former one, now also the director of cia at the time osama bin laden was killed. the sendoff ceremony for panetta will be held later on today. 6:14. get that one. apple has so much cash it could actually build the 49ers n stadium 100 times over. >> that is a lot of money and this morning growing pressure for the most successful company to share some of that money with shareholders. scott mcgrew joining us now. apple almost hoarding that cash. >> i think that's right. even apple's biggest critic says he understands why. in the '90s apple almost went bankrupt and david einhorn compares that to his grandmother who survived the depression. einhorn is pressuring apple to give money to investors in the form of dividend. apple pay as small dividend but it makes so much money that dividend doesn't even keep up with the increase in the cash pile. how big of a pile?

according to wikipedia, a space shuttle launch costs around half a billion dollars. at 140 billion in savings, apple has enough money to have paid for every single launch ever. in fact, it could run nasa for seven years straight. they have more money in their savings account than our company comcast is worth total. meanwhile, other news. shares in retail video store gamestop have had a rough week on news that games you have for your xbox won't work in others. and new into the newsroom this morning, america's trade deficit with china fell quite a bit suggesting strong american manufacturing. that's good news but it doesn't jive with latest gdp numbers.

economists will have to figure this one out. discouraging gdp numbers could be wrong. the president met with house democrats on thursday to give them a preview of the state of the union. he'll be giving that next week including calls for green energy and immigrants here hope he'll push for reform in immigration. we've talked about this. skilled workers who struggle to get visas to stay in america despite the fact they are building companies. this is an italian who can't get a visa but he hopes he can find another way to stay. >> enabling any entrepreneur from all over the world to come to this country and maybe give them six to nine months, probably a year, just to prove their concept and see if at the end of the year they have, let's say, high 1%, they're good to go. >> he'll be my guest on "press: here" after "meet the press" this sunday. >> thank you very much. time now 6:17.

christina loren back in the mix for us. telling people to walk out lock and loaded with an umbrella. >> with an umbrella but throw it back in the closet this weekend. that's what you want to hear. you don't want rain on the weekend when you want to get outdoors. 6:17 now. just want to show you before you can enjoy that weekend, you got to get through this final day of work. just getting to work this morning is not going to be as easy as usual as you can see we have radar lit up like a christmas tree this morning. not just the green. we're also getting pink and white, which is a mix of rain and snow down to 500 feet straight snowfall coming down at 1,000 feet and as we head through the next hour, exactly one more hour left in our window. we might actually get some very rare -- it's looking more likely right now. valley level snowfall. we want to show you what's happening. set this back three hours. a mix of rain and snow. now more straight snow in the east bay. look at this. look at these white pockets that

just developed. we're still watching that for you. livermore, you are still getting that straight rainfall. by 7:00 a.m., showers in the south bay. core of low pressure is moving into southern california. watch out for travel through southern california. that's going to be dangerous for today and we have fog settling in as that system starts to move out. by 10:00 a.m., we'll see mostly sunny conditions. a stray shower at 4:00 p.m. continue future cast. clear conditions tomorrow morning. that means near record cold. you want to protect your sensitive pets and plants. don't want to leave them out overnight as we'll see a very cold morning tomorrow. one of the coldest mornings of the entire year. make sure you are ready for that. we'll be in record territory. and then tomorrow afternoon it's going to be beautiful out there at at&t park for the 20th annual giants fan fest. all of the big shots will be out there. bruce bochy, hunter pence, it's

going to be very nice. barry zito and all of those giants out there. it's one of those events where a lot of people have to wait in line before they get in. so what i can tell you is bring your heavy coat. by the time we hit noon, temperatures in the 50s. probably sweater weather at that point and by 3:00 p.m., 54 degrees. what a great, great day for giants fans. i can't believe spring training already arriving. 53 in fremont. 52 in san jose. as we head throughout the next couple days, temperatures will remain in the 50s. then heading through monday and tuesday of next week, the 60s return. nice, mild, beautiful day shaping up for valentine's day and i put it on the seven day so guys out there have no excuses. that goes for you, mike inouye. >> thank you. i'm thinking now what i got to do. we're looking at the south bay where we look at 101. christina saves me every year. north 101 slower drive. it's settled down between 680

and 880. green on the map also that traffic and weather. our systems are tied together. we're talking about wet roadways. wet opposed to damp like the rest of the bay area. slowing no nor ining no north 8. the wet roads contributing factors so now we see a number of smaller accidents like this one that just popped up south 10 off 85. a single car spinout. the car no injuries reported. car went into the center divide area and now moved into the shoulder but slowing with activity over the next ten minutes. also the pink on my maps, there may be icy smaller roadways in the hills. keep that in mind throughout the area around san jose and also down through the santa cruz mountains for highway 17. over here toward the east bay hills, through fremont there may be ice on the smaller valleys. that's what our system is registering. we have this crash. two cars involved going off the roadway here south at scott creek road. slowing is blocked although slowing i saw just cleared from sensors. south 880 at auto mall parkway

similar situation. one car went off the roadway. a lot of cars through the fremont area. we'll look at oakland. volume of traffic through here picking up past the coliseum. both north and south not showing major slowings. speeds around 60. north to bay bridge toll plaza. company now for all of your lanes. looks like they are filling in here so they may have just turned on the metering lights. don't do that always on a friday. today because of slicker conditions they want to keep traffic moving slower across the bridge. on the peninsula, sparsely populated highway 101 at university. shopping area and here's the northbound route. you see the sheen on the roadway. slick conditions. watch it as you come off the freeway. back to you. >> thanks so much. time now is 6:22. coming up, how about a big-time executive privilege at the airport. we'll tell you why a public

developing story in southern california where the manhunt continues for christopher dorner. a former navy reservist and lapd officer wanted for a shooting rampage that has left three people dead. that manhunt is now stretching across a widespread area that spans several southern california cities. "today in the bay's" marla tellez joins us live in our newsroom with the latest. good morning, marla. >> good morning. police are calling dorner's whereabouts a mystery though officials are paying close attention to the resort town of big bear where dorner's burned out truck was found yesterday afternoon. it's 80 miles east of l.a. and still on lockdown this morning. investigators were hoping that tracks surrounding that charred truck would lead them to the dangerous 33 year old but this morning officials are saying those tracks turned up nothing. at lapd headquarters, it's an extremely tense situation because all 10,000 officers are considered a target. dorner mentioned 40 specific

people in his online manifesto. officials say the entire department is now on high alert. >> protect the employees that work in these facilities. we stepped up security. it's very visible. >> reporter: officials say motorcycle officers aren't allowed to ride on their bikes so they've been assigned squad cars in the name of safety. i want to show you something that's also turned up online overnight. a facebook page has been created in support of christopher dorner. so far more than 900 people like this page. people posting things like "i hope they write about you in the history books." and "you will not die in vain." dorner does have people on his side today. when it comes down to it, dorner is just a disgruntled ex-employee of the los angeles police department but as such he's highly trained and i know you're going to pick up the story from here. >> thank you very much. this is new ordinary manhunt. the lapd right now trying to track down a man, one the

department once trained, as one of its very own officers. >> of course he knows what he's doing. we trained him. he also a member of the armed forces. it's extremely worrisome and scary. >> in an 11-page manifesto, the navy reservist boasts about his combat skills saying he'll utilize every bit of survival training he's been given during his career. a former police dettive says the training makes the search tough but not impossible. >> it makes it more difficult but it's just a matter of time before the elements come together. >> dorner's lapd trainers reportedly rated him an expert sharp shooter with a handgun and a marksman with an m-16 rifle. we'll bring you the latest developments on this manhunt on air and online. you can check things out also at nbcbayarea.com. simply search manhunt. we're also watching the

weather this morning. want to check in with meteorologist christina loren. it is a cold start to our day. >> it is so cold out there. we're getting a mix of rain and snow down to about 500 feet. look at this. east foothills getting a little bit of a mix of rain and snow and temperatures are going to continue to drop off as we head through the next half hour. want to show you the east bay. look at this. foothills surrounding sunol even getting a light mixture of rain and snow. and so these little pockets will continue to develop as we head through the the next hour. we may get rare valley level snow. we would love it if you snap a picture and send it. put it on our facebook page or send it to nbcbayarea.com. we have a link for you on the weather page. look at morgan hill. they had a pretty good cell roll through on 101. travel cautiously there. look at the foothills surrounding morgan hill as the valley kind of narrows in this area. very interesting drive to work with a mix of rain and snow now at about 400 feet. very rare around here.

everything timed out just right. we'll continue to track these pockets. basically as you make your way out the front door this morning, give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination safely as it's been raining overnight. puddled and ponding out there and mike is busy at this hour. 7:00 a.m. stop clock on future cast. you can see shower activity that the point is south of the bay area. by 10:00, sunshine and highs today will remain cool. you'll need your jacket all day long with a few stray showers as we head throughout the second half of the day. keep that umbrella handy especially if you are planning on wearing something nice to work. 28 degrees is the record in santa rosa for tomorrow morning. i think we'll hit about 29 degrees. get ready for a frigid start on saturday. we'll take you through your forecast for the weekend in just a couple minutes. first want to check on that drive and get you to work on time and safely with mike inouye. >> good morning. the rain still has the wet roadways. they haven't dried out because there's no sunshine out there. we have slick conditions and also busy conditions. this is north 101 north of 680. this is where the jam is for the south bay.

it's spreading out. look at the map here. south bay map. top of your screen. you do have slowing as you head out past 680 on 101. 87 coming into downtown starting to slow down over the last few minutes. green on the map shows you where there will be wet roadways through the area. that's a concern. traffic flowing past highway 101 southbound. spin out there everything calmed down everything off to the shoulder. another issue as you head through this area. now, we do also have in fremont two crashes involving cars going off the roadway. this one on 880 southbound and slowing past auto mall parkway. two chp crews arrived on scene a few minutes ago and seen slowing as flashing lights caused distraction. no reports on lanes blocked but two cars off the roadway. they'll need a tow truck to help them out. two cars south 680 at scott creek road. fire crews blocking lanes and chp there and the wet roadway is green highlight there and pink through the hills there may be icy conditions on some of your

smaller streets. bay bridge, let's look at the toll plaza and backup that continues to build very slowly at the toll plaza. they are keeping things moving nicely across the upper deck. metering lights are on even though there's a light build. we do have folks coming through berkeley and emeryville. we'll show you west 80 with lanes filling in. still close to the upper 50s as you come down through richmond, berkeley and toward the berkeley curve. back to you. >> all right. thank you very much, mike. 6:36. the nbc bay area investigative unit has exclusively obtained financial data that shows while overall payroll in san jose decreased by 10% from 2010 to 2012, overtime increased by 35% totalling a $4 million difference. in his state of the city last night, mayor chuck reed said overtime may actually increase next year. >> we'll probably increase next year because we need to make sure that our public is protected and overtime is one of the ways to do that.

happening right now, a live look at the upper deck of the bay bridge there. reports of a motorcyclist down on the treasure island onramp. apparently a diesel truck spilled some items causing the motorcycle to go down. we have a chopper on the way to the scene. mike inouye will be along in a few moments with more information on this crash. a motorcyclist down on the treasure island onramp. an update to breaking news in san jose after a woman has died from falling from a high floor of an apartment complex. police say the victim is 24-year-old woman. investigators say there's no indication of foul play or suicide. it happened at the city heights complex in downtown san jose on

west st. james street this morning. the coroner is on the scene to take over now the investigation. a developing story going on in southern california. a manhunt now spreadi ining acr several counties for a former lapd officer and navy reservist christopher dorner. dorner accused of killing a couple that happened in orange county and then shooting three officers in riverside county. one of those officers unfortunately died from his injuries. riverside county last night. the community gathered at riverside city hall to pay tribute to the three officers who were shot. none of the officers have been identified but we do know the officer who died was just 34 years old. and this manhunt no doubt has been nothing short of chaotic and now two innocent bystanders are in the hospital after being caught up in all of this chaos. a 71-year-old woman is in intensive care this morning after she was shot twice in the back by police. she and her 47-year-old daughter were delivering papers early thursday morning when police mistook their truck for dorner's. the officers ended up opening fire hitting that truck with bullets. the daughter went in for stitches in her finger. >> we'll bring you the latest on the manhunt online and on air at nbcbayarea.com. just search manhunt. we're also watching the

weather this morning as we give you a live look at sfo. you can see some cloudy situation out there this morning. flights into the east coast being canceled in advance of a very powerful nor'easter out there. the impact being felt right here in the bay area. "today in the bay's" christie smith is live at san francisco international with a look at what you'll need to know if you are planning on flying out this morning. christie, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. dozens of cancellations already this morning at sfo. travelers who are delayed seem to be trying to make the best of it. i spoke with one whom who works with virgin america saying hadder pahad her passengers are trying to fly into philly and then take the train into boston. there are signs showing cancellations into boston, new york and newark because of the snowstorm expected on the east coast. 55 flights canceled so far out of sfo. we caught up with a family

heading to boston. they thought everything was a go this morning until the last minute when the sign changed on them. they say it's rough just trying to fly. >> washington, d.c. got canceled and over here got canceled into sacramento and it's just -- this is unheard of. we've traveled for years. i understand there's a storm back east. i'm sure that's the reason. >> reporter: now more than 1,000 flights were canceled in advance of the storm with airports like o'hare and jfk really impacted. we checked in with oakland international this morning. they have two cancellations into new york checked in at san jose and so far things look okay with no cancellations related to the storm. >> a storm of our own. it's cold out there. >> more of the white stuff.

snowfall. winter time after all. we won't get that many opportunities to see snowfall very low levels like we are getting right now. let's get to radar this morning. look at that pink located over the south bay. just a couple minutes ago i was watching. it looked like more pink than green. an indication of how cold it is out there. the pink is a mixture of rain and snow. now that's down to 400 feet. meanwhile, we're getting straight snow between 800 and 1,000 feet this morning. look at all of the foothills getting a nice dusting. we actually launched the chopper to show you the snowfall flying over the higher elevations. once that sun comes up at 7:10 we'll show you those pictures all morning long. remember, we join you every 15 minutes throughout the "today" show. as you can see just to the south of los gatos, not hitting highway 17. we do have showers, snow showers around the summit. travel cautiously. look at how close straight snowfall is getting to 680 this morning. all this pink extending to the

east bay foothills also seeing the fremont foothills getting rain/snow mix. keep that in mind. travel cautiously. we'll check on the drive with mike in just a moment. take you into southern california headed south today. it is a big travel day. friday a lot of people want to get away. traveling with this system. take it easy out there. we have some really gusty winds over the grapevine in addition to a mix of rain and snow. take it easy down there in particular. not cold enough for straight snow on the valley floor there. 43 in san jose. we still have a fair chance of picking up white stuff in gilroy. that's what we'll be watching through the next half hour after which time that window will close. you can see by 7:00 a.m. most of that moisture south of the bay area. ntinuing through the day, sunshine. beautiful air quality. you'll be able to see for ten miles or better when the sun comes out. you'll see clouds bundled up over local mountains and higher elevations will hang onto moisture today. stop the clock at 5:00 p.m. a little stray shower moves over

the peninsula. but the big weather component for the weekend is going to be the cold mornings we have for you. temperatures are going to fall to near record levels making it one of the coldest mornings on saturday of the year. prepare. bring in sensitive plants. 52 in livermore today. 52 in san jose. 56 in los gatos. you need your jacket today. you can ditch it by sunday. upper 50s on the way. then we'll hit the 60s monday into tuesday. wednesday and thursday a few more clouds increase. we could get a storm system late thursday into friday but overall looking good for all of the lovers out there on valentine's day. 6:51. he's a busy man. let's check the drive with mike. >> i'm checking my phone and updates for latest on this crash on bay bridge upper deck. the red lights lined up stacked up. that's the incline over from the oakland side into san francisco. basically grinding down to a crawl because of a crash that jon and laura told you about that came in at treasure island. it involved a motorcycle. driver is down. reports of injuries there. we have a couple lanes blocked

as you head through that tunnel. diesel truck that traveled through the area pulled over just past the accident. it does sound like there were metal that dropped off the back of that and might have been a contributing factor to this crash. slow drive up the incline. lower deck out of san francisco moves smoothly. we'll look at the backup at the toll plaza. it is a friday. we have a lighter backup. it's slowly building over the last couple minutes we've now seen the toll plaza fill in all lanes and 880 over crossing. friday light no longer the case as you cross over the bay bridge. you will want alternates because we don't have any time as far as opening goes. chp has to assess the situation and of course take care of any injuries that might be there. you'll consider mass transit. look over here. no delays reported for b.a.r.t. 58 trains running on time under the bay that gets you past that toll plaza and the bay bridge. sam trans on the san mateo side and no delays reported. we'll show you the maps. slow drive up the incline and

also all of these folks coming down to congest the area as well. traveling south from bay bridge to san mateo bridge, it gets congested now joining up with folks off 238 and we're adding to volume as people potentially will take the drive across 92 and that could be an issue. eastbound the crash has cleared but now let's get a look at the 92 toll plaza or from 92 toll plaza i should say westbound commute direction and you see that volume really starting to kick up for the flat section. no problems on the high-rise. water on the lens, water on roadway around the bay you have slick conditions as well. things got complicated crossing the bridge this friday. i'll track it. back to you. it's friday. we know what that means. gadget friday and scott mcgrew has a gadget this morning. >> you say it replaces dirt. >> we'll replace something free with something that cost $60. this is an automated planter. they call it the click and grow. it does absolutely everything for you. you just turn it on.

here's a time lapse for you of what is supposed to happen. the plants will grow out of it. i heard christina say bring in your sensitive plants. in this case you don't have to. so this thing will grow basil and tomatoes and chilies. invented for a guy who read about plants growing on the international space station so it's basically the same sort of technology. you fill a reservoir with water and that's it. it's done for about a month. about a month later you should have a full spice growing and then you can replace the cartridge in here. i have basil in here. a month from now i'll bring this back on set and we'll see how it came out. it takes care of all of the feeding and watering and vitamins and everything else. you just make sure it's under enough light, which i think will be pretty good and you're good to go. >> the cartridge itself has the seeds. >> has seeds and nutrients and everything in it. it's this big. replacement cartridges are ten
